A tree planted in Dubai succeeds or fails on three decisions made before it goes in the ground: the species, the position relative to buildings and services, and the pit preparation. A mature tree is a significant investment, and the most common reason one fails is that it was dropped into an unprepared hole in sand and watered from the surface.
Trees that perform reliably in Dubai include ghaf, sidr, date and other palms, neem, frangipani, poinciana, olive and ficus in the right position. Two cautions matter. Conocarpus, the Damas tree, is widely restricted in Dubai because of aggressive roots that damage pipes, drainage and structures, and we do not plant it. Ficus species are excellent for shade but have vigorous roots and should be kept well away from boundary walls, pools and service runs.
Before anything is dug we establish where the drainage, irrigation, electrical and pool services run, and set the tree at a distance appropriate to its mature root spread and canopy, not its size on delivery. The damage from a tree planted too close to a wall, a pool shell or a drain line shows up years later and is expensive to resolve. Getting this right at planting costs nothing.
Relocating a mature tree is possible and often preferable to losing it during a garden renovation, but it needs preparation. Root pruning some weeks ahead encourages a compact root ball, and the move itself is best done in the cooler months rather than mid-summer. Success is never guaranteed with a mature specimen and we will give an honest view of the odds for your particular tree rather than promising an outcome.
External works in Dubai usually need sign-off from whoever governs your community before anything starts. That is the master developer for most gated communities, and the relevant municipal or free-zone authority elsewhere. Emaar communities submit through the Emaar One app, Nakheel villas generally require a Villa Status Report, and mainland plots go through Dubai Municipality. We prepare and submit the drawings and the NOC paperwork as part of the job. Rules change, so we confirm the current requirement for your specific community before we quote rather than assuming.
