A green wall in Dubai is either living or artificial, and choosing between them is mostly a maintenance decision. A living wall needs irrigation, drainage, adequate light and a monthly service visit. An artificial wall needs none of that and holds its look, but it is decoration rather than planting. Both are valid; the wrong one is the one that does not match how much upkeep you want.
A living wall is a modular planted system on a frame, fed by drip irrigation with a drainage channel at the base. In Dubai they work reliably indoors and on genuinely shaded exteriors. On a wall that takes direct summer sun they are difficult to keep alive and we will say so rather than sell one. Indoors the limiting factor is usually light, so we check light levels and add discreet grow lighting where a wall is set back from a window.
UV-stabilised artificial foliage panels are the practical answer for full-sun exteriors, rented premises, and anywhere nobody will service planting monthly. They are fixed to a batten frame and need occasional rinsing and dusting. The quality difference between panels is large: cheap panels flatten, fade and look obviously plastic within a season in Dubai sun, so UV rating matters more than price.
Office and villa receptions, restaurant and retail feature walls, shaded courtyards, boundary walls that need softening, and screening an unattractive view. On a boundary wall an artificial system is usually the sensible choice; in an air-conditioned reception a living wall is very achievable.
External works in Dubai usually need sign-off from whoever governs your community before anything starts. That is the master developer for most gated communities, and the relevant municipal or free-zone authority elsewhere. Emaar communities submit through the Emaar One app, Nakheel villas generally require a Villa Status Report, and mainland plots go through Dubai Municipality. We prepare and submit the drawings and the NOC paperwork as part of the job. Rules change, so we confirm the current requirement for your specific community before we quote rather than assuming.
